There is no required qualification to become a writer. What matters is a body of good work and the ability to finish projects. Many writers study English literature, creative writing, journalism, history or philosophy, and some take a master's degree in creative writing to develop their craft and make contacts. Commercial writers often start in marketing, journalism or communications jobs.
